Here are 3 key things to check before signing that contract:

1️⃣ Lead Paint & Asbestos

  • Many homes pre-1980 used lead-based paint (banned in 1978) and asbestos in insulation and flooring.

  • Why it matters: Lead is toxic, especially for kids, and asbestos can cause lung issues if disturbed.

  • What to do: Get a professional inspection and factor in remediation costs.

  • Older homes often have outdated wiring (like knob-and-tube or aluminum) and fewer outlets than modern homes.
